Where the fuck is Kinshasa?

Curators Lydia Schellhammer and Christ Mukenge of the online project “Popular Images” together with artists Santa Kakese and Thembo Kash provide an insight into the Congolese comic scene. The video was shot at two central locations of Kinshasa’s comic scene: at the Academy of Fine Arts and in Lingwala, the artists’ quarter known especially for performances and installations in the public space.

Comics by women for women

It is still a current topic if and how women are present and represented in the comic scene and also in comics. Although women do appear in comics, they are often more a projection screen for men’s fantasies. Two young authors break with the classic images of women.
