While studying visual communication at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, he published his first comic short stories and worked as a graphic designer for several advertising agencies. In 2012, Yann Kumbozi won the “Mongo Sisé Prize” of the French Institute in Kinshasa. His author comic “Une vie oubliée” was included in the volume “Panda Farnana” in 2014 and was published by Africalia. Finally, in 2015 he founded his own label, Graphic BD Art where he publishes numerous auteur comics, including “Panthère BD”, “Congo Konzo” and “Amine”. Most of his scenarios illustrate adventures in the big city of Kinshasa, with local heroes and characters, mainly based on real-life events.
