Judith Kaluaji

Judith Kaluaji Jashita works as an illustrator in Kinshasa, publishes comics and is one of the most promising newcomers to the Congolese comic scene.

Her drawings have been published in the volume “Amazone BD”, a project for female authors initiated by Asimba Bathy, which won a prize at the International Festival of Comics in Algeria in 2010. Focusing on the theme of violence against women, Judith Kaluaji conceived her first solo exhibition in Kinshasa in 2014. With KINMASOLO she published the women’s comic strip “Libala na semyamayi” (“Siren Wedding”) in 2015 and”Bravour Derwej” in 2018. That year she also took part in the exhibition “Voices from Kinshasa” at the GRASSI Ethnological Museum in Leipzig, and she exhibited at the African Comic Festival SABDAM in the National Museum of Kinshasa in 2019. The focus of her female author comics is mostly feminist themes, dealing in particular with the role of women in Congolese society.
